Strengthening drought management through institutional coordination – New publication

Effective drought management relies heavily on institutional coordination and communication among government agencies, stakeholders, and communities. The Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has released new guidelines on institutional coordination for drought management. These guidelines provide practical steps to establish and sustain coordination, drawing from diverse country experiences and emphasizing a minimum institutional framework essential for data sharing and cross-sector collaboration.

The guidelines also highlight the importance of customizing coordination models based on each country’s specific context, including governance structures and available resources. Furthermore, a robust communication strategy is crucial for timely information dissemination before, during, and after drought events.
