Drought, Heat, and Fire: The Growing Challenge of Compound Risks

Drought is rarely just about a lack of rainfall. It often occurs alongside other hazards, such as heatwaves and wildfires, creating what are known as compound events. Together, these hazards can trigger impacts that spread across sectors, systems, and communities, making risk management more complex and highlighting the need for a systemic approach.

Taking place on the eve of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, this Virtual Exchange will look at drought through a systemic risk lens, exploring how interconnected hazards and cascading impacts shape drought resilience, with particular attention to heatwaves and wildfires.

When: 16 June 2026, 14:00 to 15:30 CEST
