Regional Drought Monitors

A drought monitor is a tool that tracks and assesses the extent and severity of drought conditions in a specific region or country, using indicators such as precipitation, soil moisture, and temperature. This helps track the severity, extent, and impacts of drought over time, supporting decision-making for agriculture, water management, and disaster preparedness.

Regional Drought Monitors

The map below provides an overview of regional drought monitors around the world, including links to relevant resources. The map includes monitors which cover more than one country / territory, either fully or partially.

If a region is not covered by a drought monitor, this does not necessarily mean that no such system exists. The map is a living resource and is continuously updated as new information becomes available.

If you are aware of a regional drought monitor that is not yet reflected on the map, please contact us at droughtmanagement@wmo.int so we can improve and update the information.

The information presented on the map is based on open-source internet searches and is intended solely for information-sharing purposes.
