Upcoming Online Course: Drought Risk and Impact Assessment

The Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) is collaborating with partners on the development of a series of training courses on the three pillars of integrated drought management (IDM):

  1. Monitoring and Early Warning
  2. Drought Risk and Impact Assessment
  3. Risk Mitigation, Preparedness, and Response

The course “Monitoring and Early Warning” – launched in 2024 and open until 29 November 2025 – already has more than 1000 enrolled participants.

The second course, “Drought Risk and Impact Assessment“, will be launched on 3 December 2025. It will equip professionals and decision-makers with the knowledge and tools to transition from hazard-focused to risk-based drought management. Designed for water resource managers, policymakers, disaster risk reduction and climate change specialists, academics, and researchers, the course addresses the pressing challenges in drought risk assessment. It emphasizes the interconnected nature of drought’s impacts across agriculture, water resources, public health, and other sectors, fostering a multidisciplinary and coordinated approach. Through case studies, practical applications, and interactive learning modules, learners will gain the skills needed to conduct comprehensive drought risk and impact assessments and to design informed, effective responses.

The course is co-developed by IDMP together with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Global Water Partnership (GWP), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the International Drought Resilience Alliance (IDRA).

Stay tuned for more information about the course, don’t miss the chance to enroll!
